A murder is afoot! Several titles were announced during the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and you may have missed Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin Ohotsuku ni Kiyu – Tsuioku no Ryuuhyou: Namida no Nipopo Ningyou if you didn’t watch the Japanese presentation.

Developed by G-Mode, the game is a remake of a murder mystery visual novel by Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii. It was originally released on the PC-6001 and the PC-88, followed by several ports. Along with writing the original game’s plot with Armor Soft, Horii is also penning a new scenario for the Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin Ohotsuku ni Kiyu remake.

Check out the Nintendo Direct trailer below:

The plot of the original Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin Ohotsuku ni Kiyu follows a Tokyo police officer working on a murder case where a victim washed up in Tokyo Harbor. That investigation takes the officer all the way to Hokkaido. The original game is a follow-up to The Portopia Serial Murder Case, a mystery game Square Enix made somewhat of a remake of last year.

Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin Ohotsuku ni Kiyu – Tsuioku no Ryuuhyou: Namida no Nipopo Ningyou is set to release in Japan on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam sometime this summer. While it hasn’t been announced for Western audiences yet, fellow Japanese-only Direct title Reynatis was recently announced for an English release, so you never know! Stay tuned to RPGFan as we find out more!
